Mr. Delmar P. Robinson passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 after a short illness.
He was born July 11, 1937 in Biloxi, MS to Edward C. Robinson, Sr. and Myrtle Robinson. Mr. Robinson was a loving and compassionate man with a great sense of humor. After graduating from Nichols High in Biloxi, he served four years in the United States Air Force, upon leaving the Air Force he worked for the Department of Interior for ten years in San Francisco, CA. He served as administrative assistant for the Job Corps Program in Middlesboro, Kentucky for two years, then attended a management program in Washington, D.C. for two years. Following this time in Washington, DC he was employed as director of the Oconaluftee Job Corps Center in Cherokee, N.C. from which he retired after 27 years of service.
After coming home to Biloxi, he was appointed as chairman of the Biloxi Housing Authority and he served as fund raiser and president of Habitat for Humanity. He was finance chair for 8 years for the Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church and was presently serving on the finance committee for the General Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was very active in local, state and national community work and was awarded for his works by governors of the states of North Carolina and Mississippi. He was also recognized by the Kiwanis Club, NAACP and other organizations. Mr. Robinson served on many, many boards and will be missed by all.
Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Myrtle Robinson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lois C. Robinson; 4 sons, Rodric (Terri) Robinson of Mableton, GA, Keith (Scott) Robinson of Chattahoochee Hills, GA, Derek (Dora) Robinson of Cherokee, NC and Marcus (Mollie) Robinson of Bryson City, NC; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Carl, Jordan, Christopher, Preston and Revis; two brothers, Edward (Ara Mae) Robinson, Jr. of Decatur, GA and Eugene (Melinda) Robinson of Baton Rouge, LA; one sister, Cynthia (Tommy) Brumfield of Jackson, MS; and a large family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Biloxi, MS at 11:00 am. Friends may visit from 9:00 am until service time. Burial will follow at the Biloxi City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Delmar asked that donations be made to the Building Fund at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Biloxi, MS in his name.
