Gretchen Potin Mortimer died, Monday, May 5, 2014. She was 82 years of age.
Mrs. Mortimer was born February 9, 1932 in New Orleans to James Bernard and Elizabeth Joachim Potin. She lived in that city until her marriage to Wyndham George Mortimer in 1970. Mrs. Mortimer was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, where she supported and was very involved in St. Vincent de Paul Society and Our Lady of Fatima School.
Mrs. Mortimer was preceded in death by her husband, Wyndham; her parents, Bernard and Elizabeth Potin; two brothers, Bernard Potin and James Bernard Potin; and a sister Elizabeth Potin Pittenger.
She is survived by a step-son, Thomas R. Mortimer, his wife Leslie, and their daughter Jamie of Moraga, CA; nephew, James Bernard Pittenger, his wife, Kelly Hazel, and their son, Alexander of Minneapolis, MN; niece, Yvonne Cappe, her husband Roger of St. Francisville, LA; great niece, Jaime Abou-Shahla, her husband Faisal, and their daughters Zaria and Amaya; a very special friend, advisor, and walking buddy, Garry Bouissey of Biloxi; and her beloved Pekingese, “Pinkie”.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 10am-noon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial and a celebration of Mrs. Mortimer’s life. Interment will take place at Biloxi National Cemetery. All arrangements are being handled by the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church or to a charity of your choice.
The family would especially like to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Biloxi Regional Medical Center ICU for their love and care of our beloved Nanan while she was hospitalized. Also, many thanks to neighbor, Ann Miller, for watching after “Pinkie”.
