David Lee Morton, 70, of Biloxi, MS passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in Gulfport.
David graduated high school in Gulfport. He worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron, Colonial Bakery and Borden’s Ice Cream prior to entry into the U.S. Navy in 1983, where he retired after 20 years of service. While serving in the U.S. Navy, David received the following commendations: Navy Good Conduct Medal (6), Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2), Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Insignia, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, NATO Medal, U.S. Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon and the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation. David had a love for bee keeping and harvesting honey with his friend, Peter Blake, riding motorcycles with the Pensacola American Legion, fishing, gardening and most of all, spending time with his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irwin James Morton and Jessie Lee Winter Morton; his brothers, Dennis Morton and James Morton; and his in-laws, Stanley and Sylvia Rolkosky.
David’s survivors include his loving and caring wife of 17 years, Deborah Morton; his children, Sheri and Paul Krause of Biloxi, Ernie and Jan LeBatard of Ocean Springs, Chris and Christy LeBatard of Biloxi and Michael and Kimberly LeBlanc of Hurley; his grandchildren, Camryn, Gracie, Triston, Meredith, Adyson, Claire and Lilly; his sister, Delores Morton of Jackson, MS; his brother, Larry (Elaine) Morton of Lafayette, LA; numerous nieces and nephews; and his longtime Navy buddy, Tom Norris.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made in David’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, 350 W. Woodrow Wilson Drive Suite 2470, Jackson, MS 39213.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 12:00 pm. Friends may visit from 11:00 am until Mass time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
