Dorothy Marie Szymanski, 85, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at her home in Gulfport. She had been a resident of Gulfport for most of her life and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert Szymanski; her parents, Herrin and Rosa Davis Walters; siblings, Forrest, Dewey, Woodrow, Howard, Pearl, Margaret and Ethel Lois.
She is survived by her children, Margaret (Bill) Jenkins, Barbara (Barry) Marshall, and David (CJ) Szymanski; grandchildren, Blake (Tiffany) Jenkins, Karen (Henry) Hewes, Jason Olivieri, Jennifer (Scott) Yanklowitz, Zoe (Derek) Rico and Shella Szymanski; great-grandchildren, Elle, Clara, Lola, Bailee, Leo and Gelsey. Her survivors also include her brother, Charlie Walters.
Mrs. Szymanski was a loving homemaker and known by all in her family as a wonderful cook who could make the best gumbo, peach cream pie and many other family favorites. She also loved to sew, read, garden and enjoyed sharing her garden flowers.
Her family wishes to express thanks to Mrs. Barbara Jefferson for her loving care, dedication and kindness. Her loyalty and friendship will always be remembered and treasured.

The funeral service will be Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 1301 31st Avenue, Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment follows at Evergreen Cemetery.
