Frederick Joseph Mannino, age 91, passed away on November 18, 2020, in his home in D’Iberville, Mississippi.
A first generation American, Fred was born and baptized in New Orleans, Louisiana to parents Vincent and Leona Mannino on June 21, 1929. His large family relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where they made their home in Mississippi City. Fred graduated from Gulfport High School, class of 1947, and the University of Southern Mississippi with a BA. in 1951. He then went on to attend the University of Mississippi Law School and earned his LBB in 1953.
In his chosen profession, he was admitted to the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Mississippi and Southern District of Mississippi, as well as to the U.S. Court of Appeals Fifth and Eleventh Circuit. He was a founding member of Page, Mannino Peresich & McDermott, PLLC in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he practiced law and was a member of the Mississippi Bar for over 50 years.
In 1960 Fred served the United States Army with honor in Washington D.C. until 1962.
Traveling on bicycle as a young man, Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers. An outdoorsman at heart, he could be frequently found sailing on the Mississippi Sound or water skiing on the bayous and rivers close to his home. Throughout his life he shared his passion for the outdoors with his family. He was a lifelong fan of fitness and an avid fan of competitive sports- including swimming, biking, racket ball and especially tennis. He enjoyed the outdoors, convertibles, jazz and big band music and was an accomplished trumpet player. Fred adored and loved his large family immensely and in retirement found time to pursue his love of books, quietly reading by the river usually with his dog by his side. A wonderful and loving father and husband, he will be remembered fondly.
He is preceded in death by brothers Fortune and Sal Mannino and sisters Jo Stajdel and Leona Moody. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Beth Mannino, children Frederick (Candace), Marcy Duckworth (Jim), and Phoebe Chenoweth (Dave), stepchildren Cynthia Morris, Johnny, Harry (Patti), Steve (Charlotte), Chris Davidson (Abbie) and Paul and Sheri Krause, grandchildren Amelia Vallot Mannino, Mary Elaina and Trace Duckworth, Morgan, Madison and Mia Chenoweth, Damien and Heather Bond, Chancellor and Jody Hood, Brittany, Harry Jr., Corey, Nathan Estee, Finn Davidson and Triston Krause, and sister Gloria Gillis.
A Memorial Mass will be held and conducted on Tuesday November, 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 10446 Lemoyne Blvd., D’Iberville, MS 39540, and a private burial will follow at a later date. Face masks and social distancing required for all services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi.
