George W. Houtz Jr., age 86, of Gulfport MS, died on April 27, 2021.
George was born on May 21, 1934 in Gulfport MS. He graduated from Gulfport High in 1952. He then attended U.S.M. before joining the U. S. Army, serving in Japan during the Korean War as an NCO. After years in the finance business, George served with the MS National Guard AVCRAD, retiring with honors as a Chief Warrant Officer 5 with 26 years of military service. His last position was as curator for the City of Gulfport’s museum for 5 years until Hurricane Katrina hit.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sarah Houtz, Sr.
Survivors include his beloved and devoted wife, Dorothy Houtz; sister, Minnie Weaver; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bert Campbell Jr. (Betty) and Ron Campbell (Donna); 4 children, Carla Blackwood (Charlie), George “Bucky” Houtz III, Rhonda Houtz, and Brian Houtz (Andrea). He has 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
A private family service will be held on May 4th at the Biloxi National Cemetery. Friends and family may gather from 2:30-4:30 on May 4th at the Westminster Presbyterian Church fellowship hall on Lawson Ave. in Gulfport. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport, is honored to serve the Houtz family.
