Leighton Tripp, age 77 passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Monday, August 1st, 2016.
Leighton was born in Fall River, MA to Mr. And Mrs. Ralph W. Tripp Jr. on February 2, 1939. He graduated from Westport High School in 1957. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1961 and proudly served for 21 years. He married Carolyn Russell in 1962. His Coast Guard journey stationed him in New Bedford, MA, Bangor, ME, Boston, MA and Gulfport, MS. Lt. Tripp served on the U.S.C.G. Eastwind Icebreaker, and traveled to many foreign countries. His final duty station was Mobile, AL, where he retired in 1982 due to cancer. He was a 32 year cancer survivor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Russell L. Tripp, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, Daughter, Lynn and her fiancé Chad Neciase, who was Leighton's special caregiver, brother, Ralph W. Tripp III and his wife, Diane, his grandchildren, Russell Tripp Jr. and Christine Tripp of Mobile, AL., Lauren Bradshaw, Ryan Davis, Kevin Tripp, and Connor Guardia, all of Long Beach, and Jourdan Carrell and her husband, Matthew of Biloxi. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, a niece, a nephew and numerous aunts and uncles in Massachusetts.
Visitation is Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport at 5:30 p.m. until the service at 6:00 p.m. Military honors by the U.S. Coast Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25TH Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501.
