Ada M. Bacon, 94, of Gulfport, died August 11, 2011 in Gulfport. She was born December 12, 1916 in Mechlanburg County, Virginia, the third child of Henry Thomas and Mary Harding Mason. Ada grew up on the family cotton/tobacco farm which also had a popular lake for swimming where she frequently acted as life-guard. After receiving a degree in accounting from Strayer College in Washington DC, Ada worked as an accountant for several Washington firms. After WWII, she moved with her family to Nebraska and was especially active in the DAR and CAR, serving as Regent on the district, state, and national levels. Ada and her husband Harold moved to Gulfport in 1973. She was very active in the Bayou View Baptist Church, served as president of the Gulfport Civic League, was a patron of Center Stage, a member of the Gulfport Yacht Club Auxiliary and an outstanding bridge player.
Ada was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry Thomas Mason of Detroit; a sister, Ola Mason of Washington and Gulfport; and her son, Noel Thomas Bacon of Key West. She is survived by her husband, Harold Bacon; her daughter, Barbara Rosetti (George); her granddaughter Lisa Rosetti Majure and great grandson, Johnny Majure, all of Gulfport; and a sister, Mary Agnes Price of Madison, Virginia.
Funeral services are scheduled on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Bayou View Baptist Church in Gulfport where friends may visit one hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Bayou View Baptist Church Youth Program, 4709 Chamberlain, Gulfport, Ms 39507 or the American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, Ms 39507.
