Adele Cohen Roberts, went to be at peace with our Lord, September 20, 2021 in Gulfport, Mississippi, while evacuated for Hurricane Ida. Born in Brooklyn, New York, November 8, 1935 to Joseph and Nellie Cohen, she spent her life, making friends and sharing smiles, laughter, love and tears while growing up in Brooklyn, getting married and living on Navy Bases around the country, in Japan, Terrytown, Louisiana and finally landing in Barataria, Louisiana.
Prior to her marriage, to her beloved, GMGC Murray A. Roberts, Adele worked as personal secretary with Judge Domenick Rinaldi, NYC Superior Court who then officiated her marriage. Throughout the many years of military life, she volunteered with Navy Relief welcoming and aiding Navy families in need. After her husband retired from the Navy, Adele worked for Sears for 19 years before she retired.
She was always there to offer help, support, love, lots of laughter, sarcasm and a listening ear to family, friends and anyone in need. Her great compassion and empathy for each person she met was developed as a child through the stories of her family’s immigration from Russia, fleeing persecution of Jewish people in Vilnius, Lithuania. She learned the lessons of being the living presents of God’s commandment to love thy neighbor, as her grandparents helped WWII concentration camp survivors relocate and adjust to life in the United States of America and later as she heard the stories of her sister-in-law’s families’ escape from Belgium and personally endured the hurt of slurs directed at her. She also learned to stand up for herself and others, while staying strong in her convictions. Adele passed this love, ability to see the lighter side, strength, and commitment on to her children and grandchildren by example.
Adele (Murray Roberts, deceased) is survived by her brother Phillip Cohen (Lilian); Audrey Cohen, niece; her youngest son, Steven Roberts (Karina); Sarah Roberts, granddaughter; Jennifer Roberts, granddaughter; Joshua Roberts, grandson; Marco Figueroa, grandson; her eldest son, Michael Roberts (Tracy); Michael A. Benz (Angela), grandson; Buttercup B. Mancusso (Frank), granddaughter; Genieree Sugasti, granddaughter; Jennifer Sugasti, granddaughter; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson.

Afterglow
“I’d like the memory of me To be a happy one…
I’d like to leave an afterglow Of smiles when life is done…
I’d like to leave an echo Whispering softly down
the ways Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave When life is done.”
