Albert Misko

Mr. Albert Joseph Misko, Sr., 91, of Ocean Springs, made his way home to Heaven on Friday, April 21, 2006 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Mr. Misko was born March 7, 1915 in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was a member of the United States Navy for four years, and was part of the Governor's staff from 1972-1976. Mr. Misko also served as the president and treasurer of the Fisherman's Union, Assistant Chief of the BMR/DMR, and was a lifelong member of the Slovenian Benevolent Association where he served as treasurer, and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Mr. Misko was crowned Shrimp King in the 1984 Blessing of the Fleet. Mr. Misko was preceded in death by his parents, Madeline Pitalo Misko and George Anthony Misko; his siblings, Anthony "Tony" Misko, Lucretia "Lou" Briticivich, Elizabeth Guiterrez, Stevie Misko, George Misko, and Peter Misko, and a step-grandchild, Andrea. Mr. Misko is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Eunice Leckich Misko; his son, Albert J. Misko, Jr. and wife, Iva; his daughter, Margaret Misko VanLoon and husband, Dennis; three grandchildren, Chad Misko, Brooke VanLoon, and Kyle Misko; his step-daughter, Lauree West and husband, Billy; his two step-sons, Andre' Kaufman and wife, Kathleen, and Otis Kaufman and wife, Joyce; and an extended family of step-grandchildren, Jason, Kelly, Tiffany, April, Amber, and Jason; and step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Misko is also survived by his siblings, Madeline Rita Jenkins, Antonia Juen, Frances Lamas, and John Misko, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Misko was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast where he owned and operated his own shrimp boats, Cajun, Letter D, and Mr. Al. He was a fisherman his entire life. He loved the water and being outdoors. He also enjoyed handing out silver dollars to the young children. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all. Special thanks to Dr. Kurian, and the nurses in the ICU at the VA Hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi, for all your excellent and loving care-giving. May PaPa always look out over blue waters and calm seas. Visitation will be Monday, April 24, 2006 from 6-8pm with the Rosary at 7pm at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes. Services will be Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 9:30 in the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
