Alfred Wendell Fobes, Jr.

Alfred Wendell Fobes, Jr., of Biloxi, MS, son of the late Alfred Wendell Fobes, Sr. and the late Geneva Law Allen, both of Lawton, OK, died in his sleep Sunday, July 27, 2008, after a battle with cancer. He is survived by four sons, Tim Fobes-Glover of Oklahoma, Robert T. Fobes of Biloxi, Andrew W. Fobes of Riverview, FL, and Justin R. Fobes of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Teresa Y. Johnston of Biloxi, and Tamie R. Casey of Warner Robbins, GA; three siblings, Kenneth Fobes of Pratt, KS, Ann Thatcher of Lawton, OK, and Amy McCarty of Plano, TX; and four grandchildren. Already a world traveler by the age of four, Alfred was the son of decorated WW II hero and Bataan Death March survivor, the late Alfred Wendell Fobes, Sr., and the late Geneva Law Allen, both of Lawton, OK. The junior Fobes carred on his father's military legacy with 27 years' service in the U. S. Air force, retiring as master sergeant in 1985. He served in Vietnam in the mid 1960s and in Korea in 1979-80. As a child reared in pastoral and farm settings, Alfred developed his interests in outdoor life, adventure and craftmanship, which reflected in many passions throughout his years, including photography, model airplane building, outboard motors, guitar playing, fly-tie lure making, and all types of fishing----whether in the warm waters of the South or the icy waters of frozen Alaska. An expert cook, his decadent, self-coined recipes and seafood creations are legendary among his family and friends. Those who knew him most know that Alfred loved sipping his coffee in the early mornings, sitting outside and contemplating the day ahead. A blithe spirit at his essence, Alfred will be remembered as a kindhearted, humorous and sentimental man who loved his family and pets and who found joy in the happiness of others. Graveside services will be held Friday, August 1, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
