Alice Marie Chunn Trochesset, age 95, of Biloxi, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022 in Pass Christian.
Marie was born on April 4, 1926 in Philadelphia, MS to James Fletcher Chunn and Myrtle Dewease Chunn. She was the second of 13 children. After high school graduation, Marie moved to the MS Gulf Coast where she got a job as a telephone operator. After marrying Shannon Trochesset, Marie converted to Catholicism. They built their home in the St. Martin community where they joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Marie became active in the church teaching CCD and joining the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. Marie and Shannon raised four children in Sacred Heart Church where several are still members today. Most recently, Marie was honored as the Queen of the 2021 Sacred Heart Catholic Church Bazaar.
Other than serving in her church, Marie also became involved with her children’s school and extra-curricular activities. She engaged with her community through the St. Martin Home Extension Club. While her children were all in school, she started sewing for others to help contribute to the family. After Hurricane Camille, she went to work at Gulf Hills Hotel making drapery and later at O’Bannon Sandwich Shop. When her husband, Shannon, retired she decided to stay home and they traveled throughout the USA. When she wasn’t traveling, she took great joy working in her flower gardens and sewing.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Shannon Trochesset; her parents; 8 sisters and 3 brothers.
She is survived by her 4 children, Shannon Trochesset, Stephen Trochesset, Sr. (Jeannie), Kevin Trochesset, Sr. (Donna), and Dawn Trochesset Gildea (Jim); 9 grandchildren, Trina Trochesset Clark, Stephen Trochesset, Jr. (Lynell), Daniel Trochesset, Tiffany Tanner, Kevin Trochesset, Jr. (Candice), Kristian Trochesset, Mallory Trochesset Rodrigues (Michael), John Gildea, and Rachel Gildea Lawrence (Emmett); and brother, James Chunn. She is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
We, the family, would like to thank Freddie and Keri Steube who took our mother into their home and provided her with the best care and loved her as their own. They will forever be a part of our family. Also thank you to Kare-in-Home, especially Jessica, Dee, and Tracey for taking care of Marie and providing support to all of us during the past two months.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
