Alma McKenzie

Alma Parker McKenzie, of Ocean Springs, died Saturday, February 26, 2005. Born August 25, 1908, Mrs. McKenzie was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast, having resided in Biloxi for 45 years and in Ocean Springs for 51 years. She was graduated from Biloxi High School with academic distinction. Following graduation, she worked for the Biloxi Ford Motor Company and later for DeJean's Packing Company. After marrying J.L. (Mac) McKenzie, Alma turned her interests toward community work, both as a Grand Matron of the Biloxi Chapter of Eastern Star and a fifty-year member of P.E.O. Chapter E. Alma and her husband J.L. (Mac) owned Biloxi Auto Parts on Howard Avenue. She was also a member of the Garden Club and the Gulf Hills Ladies Golf Association. Mrs. McKenzie was preceded in death by her parents; Captain William O. and Mary (Mamie) Markey Parker, by her husband, J.L. (Mac) McKenzie, and by a sister, Thelma Parker Herget. She is survived by her sister, Lillian Parker Delzell; a sister-in--law, Helen McKenzie; nephews, Bill Delzell (Darlene), Albert Herget (Carolyn), James McKenzie, Robert McKenzie, Richard McKenzie, Walter McKenzie, nieces, Mary Herget, Karen Delzell Lucas (Bill), Jane Beasley, Patty Headon, Carolyn Winstead, and Margaret Cherry. She is survived by many grand nieces and nephews including: Todd Delzell, Tandy Warren, Todd Ellison, Shane Ellison, Amey Strong Rasmussen, Brian Strong, Christian Herget, Allison Herget, and many great grand nieces and nephews. She is also survived by numerous cousins, including August Parker, Jr. (Grace), Marie Markey, and Millie Markey. Mrs. McKenzie was a lifelong member of the Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi where the funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m.,followed by interment at Southern Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Church of the Redeemer beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 28, 2005 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi.
