Mrs. Althea J. Ahern Vermilyea, 95, of D'Iberville, MS, passed away, Saturday, December 12, 2009, in D'Iberville. Mrs. Vermilyea was a third generation Biloxian. She was the daughter of George and Alice Lynd Ahern of Biloxi. She was preceded in death by her husband, King Vermilyea; a sister, Alethea "Cricket" Matthews; and a brother, George Ahern. Mrs Vermilyea was born on July 15, 1914 in Biloxi. She was a Biloxi pioneer business woman having owned and operated four business. Two of which were the Home Pride Fountain and the Ole Colony Furniture Store at Edgewater Mall. Mrs. Vermilyea is survived by nieces, Alice Matthews (Charles) Taylor of Tucson, AZ; and Jeanie (Barrow) Cousins of D'Iberville; and nephews, Charles (Emily) Matthews of St. Martin, and George "Bo" (Sondra) Ahern of D'Iberville. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Southern Memorial Park.
