Ann-Marie Mashburn Cornett, 72, a long time resident of Gulfport passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 at her home in Gulfport. She was born on January 29, 1941 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She grew up in Hattiesburg and maintained lifelong friendships with her childhood friends.
She married Charlie Cornett, also from Hattiesburg on November 28, 1959 with whom she had her only child, Charles Michael Cornett (Mike).
They moved to Gulfport and made their home there where they remained. Although divorced in 1974, they remained dear friends.
Ann-Marie worked for many years for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Department of Corrections. During this time she put herself through nursing school at MGCCC, Jefferson Davis Campus and earned her RN license in 1997. Health issues required an early retirement for her in 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn Mashburn Laviolette and Morris Mashburn, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Charles Michael ‘Mike” Cornett and his wife, Catherine Cornett; her ex-husband, Charlie Cornett and his son, Chad.
She is also survived by her beloved dogs, Lucky, Sugar, Molly, Ginger, and Lil Bit.
Her love for animals was only outdone by her love for art, music, nature and life itself. She enjoyed her fellowship with her church and looked forward to meeting our Lord along with her family that awaited her.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport.
