Ann Turner Roberts, 87, formerly of Laurel, passed away on Saturday, April 26th at Crescent Manor Convalescent Home, in Waterbury, CT after a long illness. Born October 31, 1920 in Carroll County, she attended grammar schools there and in Greenwood. In 1938 she graduated from high school in Goodman at Holmes Community College, which then had a high school for boarding students. Mrs. Roberts married the late W. Carl Roberts on October 7, 1939, in Winona, where she worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. They were married for 60 years until her husband’s death in 1999. During World War II, Mrs. Roberts was the first civilian employee to be hired at the camp for German prisoners of war in Clinton. She also worked as a secret undercover agent for the government at the camp, where she was secretary to the Post Engineer. After the war she was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospitals in Jackson, Gulfport and Biloxi. She became a medical record librarian and worked for Jones County Community Hospital for many years until the hospital closed and was a longtime member of the Mississippi State Medical Records Association. She and her husband were members of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Laurel. After her husband’s death, Mrs. Roberts lived in Biloxi, and later lived at her son’s home in Connecticut. She is survived by her son, Stephen Roberts of East Haven, Connecticut and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 1 until 1:30 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport.
