Anne V. Cooper

Anne V. Cooper, 82, of Gulfport died Saturday, November 22, 2014 in Gulfport. Mrs. Cooper was born in Blue Mountain, MS and had been a resident of Gulfport since 1964. For more than 20 years, Mrs. Cooper was employed as a bookkeeper in both law and retail. She was a member of Handsboro United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #51 since 1968, Amaranth American Legion and Daughters of the Nile. She was an American Red Cross Volunteer at Keesler Air Force Base Hospital for twelve years. Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her parents, Steve A and Bonnie L. Vandevender; a daughter, Deborah Cooper McKay; a grandson, Joshua Douglas Luke; and three sisters, Betty Dougherty, Faye Harris and Wanda Ayers. Survivors include her husband of almost 65 years, Johnny H. Cooper; a daughter, Shirley Cooper (Jim) Hardaman; a son, Johnny Michael Cooper, all of Gulfport; two sisters, Lynn Citti of San Jose, CA and Mary Reed of Hamburg, PA; two brothers, Steve Vandevender of Nashville, TN and Dr. Walter Vandevender of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren, Jason (Misti) Cooper, Amber (Michael) Timms, Brian (Stacy) Cooper, Stacey Seruntine, Cody Cooper and Chase Cooper; and ten great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan, Zachary, Lauren, Austin, Kayli, Cameron, Ian, Ella and Avery. The Eastern Star Service and funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Handsboro United Methodist Church, where friends may visit one hour before the service. Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to the American Red Cross, 2782 Fernwood Rd, Biloxi, MS 39531.
