A precious soul and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend went home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2015 after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Annie R. Harvey was born September 26, 1933 in Smith County, Mississippi. Annie is preceded in death by her parents, Buria Lee and Winnie R. Hosey; her two brothers, Billy Ray and John Henry Hosey, and her daughter Beverly Ann Farris.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 63 years, Avereese Harvey; a daughter, and son-in-law, Teresa and David Sauls. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Jeffery Simmons of West Jordan, UT, Eric Simmons and wife, April, Lindsey Byrd and husband Brett, and Lauren Bressler and husband, Josh, all of Gulfport. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren; Gabrielle Simmons, Betsy Byrd, Mamie Byrd, Rhys Simmons and Callie Ann Bressler. She further leaves behind son-in-law Cooper Farris, her loving niece Barbara Copeland, and other nieces and nephews.
Annie was a member of Unity Baptist Church, McHenry, MS. Annie was a homemaker with a love of plants. Eventually that passion was turned into a plant shop started out of her home. As it grew, so did her need for more space until her husband built a plant shop at their home and Harvey’s Plants and Blooms was born. For many years she supplied plants to Bunco groups, churches, schools, and many others. She lovingly polished each and every leaf of every plant. When her mother became ill, Annie had to close her shop, but it is still remembered by many today. Annie was active in her church for her entire life. She had the spiritual gift of giving and many churches, families, and individuals have benefited from her generosity.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Unity Baptist Building Fund or to the Alzheimer’s Organization. She always said “I don’t need flowers when I die; give me flowers while I live.”
The family would like to thank the staff of Stone County Nursing and Rehabilitation for caring for Annie for the past three and a half years, especially for their care and concern during the past week.
The funeral service is Sunday, September 6, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church in McHenry where friends may visit beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow after the service.
