Mr. Anthony Trataglia, 96, of Biloxi, MS, passed away June 13, 2009, in Biloxi in the arms of friends. Tony was born August 5, 1912, in Morristown, New Jersey. He retired September 1, after 30 years of services. A Metallurgical engineer in the electromechanical and contamination research department at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ. Tony said, "I found personal satisfaction in solving engineering problems for the Bell Systems and I'm impressed with the vast wealth of knowledge at one's fingertips. But most important", he adds, "I'm impressed with the many people who are willing to help and not just in the technical things". His career included metallurgical work on submarine cable, early semi-conductor development, sealed dry weed switches, and the metallography of electrodeposited finishes. Tony has been called an "artist-in-residence" by his friends, referring to his drawings that illuminate the pages of many a retiree's memory book. "My art ability has helped me in many ways in my work", relates Tony. "It's amazing how it has come into play at times. He was a member of the Arts and Crafts, Toastmaster and Biloxi Yacht Clubs. Anthony "Tony" Tartaglia moved from Morristown, NJ, to Biloxi at the insistance of his brother-in-law, Paul Radzewicz. They became best friends and went on daily excursions, conquering the trials and tribulations of up-keeping their sailboats. Tony loved sailing on the Back Bay of Biloxi where he lived on the north shore up until Katrina. From his contributions at Bell Labs in New Jersey and his award winning art works, to the love of his extended family in Mississippi, Tony will be fondly remembered forever in all the lives of those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina; parents, Adam and Rose Tartaglia; and brothers, Fred and Frank Tartaglia. Tony will be greatly missed by those who loved him, Jeane Brown and Lourdes Medina, friends, companions and caretakers. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 15, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Biloxi City Cemetery. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
