Arthur Hedges

Arthur “Gilbert” Hedges, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, of Ocean Springs, was born October 13, 1936, in New Orleans, LA. He passed away at his home amongst his family on November 8, 2011. Known as Pawpaw by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Gilbert was a lifelong resident of the Coast. He was a graduate of Biloxi High School. He worked for Balius Floor Covering after graduation. He was the former owner of Hedges Floor Covering in Biloxi. He retired from St. John’s Episcopal Church as Sexton in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Katherine Hedges, and his sister, Belle Bailey. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lois Hedges, three sons, Arthur Hedges, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Corinth, MS, Frank Hedges of Ocean Springs, Ron Hedges and his wife Ione of Gulfport, two daughters, Lori Lowery and her husband Jimmy of Ocean Springs, Kathy Daigle and her husband David of Ocean Springs, eight grandchildren, Jodi Godsey, Layla Hedges, Gil Hedges III, Marina Wilson, Michael Dry, Ross Hedges, Reganne Daigle, and Jacob Daigle, and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Summer, and Annabelle. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs where friends may visit with the family one hour before service time. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Gilbert’s name to St. John’s Episcopal Church. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
