Aurora Marie Smolcich

Aurora Marie Saujon Smolcich, 83, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2007. She was a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She lived a fulfilled life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. She was dearly loved by many and loved many dearly. During her lifetime, Mrs. Smolcich, affectionately known as "Rho", was very involved with the Ladies Auxillary VFW #2434 and the French Club. She very much enjoyed her association with Jolly Travelers and the vacations shared with fellow members that turned into friendships that lasted her lifetime. She was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Biloxi and the St. Michael's Altar Society. She lived her latter years as a resident of the Villa Maria for over 18 years and made many dear friends during her stay. Mrs. Smolcich spent some of her free time and talent crocheting beautiful afghans, baby blankets and clothes cherished by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent L. Smolcich, Sr. who she married on April 4, 1948. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert Saujon and Mary McCaleb Saujon and her siblings, John McCaleb, Walter Saujon, Edwin Saujon, Warren Saujon, Patsy Saujon Cruso, and Vera Saujon Keelan and several loved in-laws. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon S. McDonnell (John McDonnell), her son, Vincent L. Smolcich, Jr. (Myrna Smolcich), her grandchildren, Jason Rumsey (Sherry Rumsey) and Courtney Snodgrass (Mark Snodgrass, Jr.), Rachel Smolcich, and her great grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Shirley Stephens and many loved brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Trinity Hospice and the staff at Gulf Coast Medicial Center who offered comfort to Mrs. Smolcich and her family. Services will be held at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi on Saturday April 7, 2007 at 11:30 where friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with interment immediately following at Biloxi City Cemetery.
