Barbara Bell Barlow age 91, of Long Beach died Thursday, June 28, 2018 in Gulfport. She was born March 20, 1927 in Gulfport.
Barbara was a graduate of Millsaps college with a BA degree in Elementary and Christian Education. She taught school in Jackson and in Indiana. Other jobs include work with Mississippi State Board of Health-Vital Statistic, Secretary and Public Relations for the Marion District United Methodist Church and a devoted wife and mother.
Barbara was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Long Beach, and active in P.E.O., a philanthropic organization assisting women with grants and scholarships to attend college.
Barbara and her husband retired in 1987 and moved back to MS after living in Indiana for 23 years. Her husband, Hubert L. Barlow, Sr. was a United Methodist Church Minister and served churches in MS and Indiana.
Preceding her in death were her husband, her father, Marvin Bell and her mother, Catherine Magruder Bell; two brothers, Marvin Bell and Wiley Bell.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Barlow and his wife Luz of Illinois and Hubert Barlow, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Long Beach; a daughter, Ellen Janya Barlow-Hohokabe and her husband, Yoshihide of Long Island, NY; three grandchildren, Melissa and Anna Barlow and Shay Hohokabe; also surviving is a brother, Dunbar and his wife, Margie of Jackson.
A memorial and Resurrection Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Long Beach on Tuesday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Gulf Pines Cemetery in Long Beach. The family request in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be given to the budget or building fund of the First UMC, 208 Pine Street, Long Beach, MS 39560.
