Barbara C. Smith

Mrs. Barbara C. Smith, age 78, of Ocean Springs, MS., passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010, in Ocean Springs. Barbara was a retired reading teacher with the St. Martin Elementary Schools for over twenty one years of teaching. She obtained her Bachelor and Masters Degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. During her time as a teacher at St. Martin and a resident of Ocean Springs, she has touched the lives of so many. She was extremely devoted to her family and was surrounded by this family at the time of her death. Thank God for the time we had with her and only wished it had been more. She will be sadly missed and will be carried in the hearts of her loved ones always. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, James E. and Addie I. (Bell) Gore, infant brother, Billy, son, Jeffery W. Smith, grandson, John Childress and infant granddaughter, Barbara Bell Smith. Survivors include her husband, Loring J. Smith, Sr., daughters, Carolyn A. Kilpatrick and Marian L. Smith, sons, Loring J. Smith Jr., and James G. Smith, sister, Audrey Williams and husband, Shelton, sister-in-law, Mary Virginia Burk and husband, Benton, sixteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, May 6, 2010, from 10 am until 11 am, with an 11 am church service, all at Springhill Baptist Church in Ocean Springs. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
