With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Barbara Ann McDowell (Bunny or Ms. Bunny to family friends), our loving and devoted grandmother, mother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on November 9th, 2021. She was in her 84th year.
Born in Harrisburg, Illinois on August 19, 1937, Ms. Bunny met her future husband, Russell McDowell, in grade school. The two married in September 1957, remaining together until his passing in July of 2016.
She lived a full life and was a steadfast friend to all that knew her. Gifted as a creative artist, she sewed anything and everything for her grandchildren and was highly skilled in drawing/painting in numerous genres. As an entrepreneur, she drew on her artistic originality, launching both a successful clothing line and a customized Christmas ornament business.
Most of all she loved her family and friends and instilled good values in her children and grandchildren that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell McDowell.
Survivors include her children, Mitchell (Mindy) McDowell of Ocean Springs, MS and Amy (Shannon) Peattie of Ocean Springs, MS; five grandchildren, Amanda Peattie, Shanna Peattie, Kyle McDowell, Mason McDowell, and Morgan McDowell; and a daughter, Gina McDowell.
We would like to thank the staff at Lighthouse Assisted Living for the wonderful care they provided to Ms. Bunny over the last two years.
A graveside service will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave, Biloxi, MS 39535, on Tuesday, November 16th, at 2:30 p.m. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow the graveside service.
Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs is honored to serve the family of Barbara McDowell.
