Baxter Jones

LCDR Baxter Jones, (US Navy Retired), 74, of Pass Christian, died Monday, January 10, 2011 in Gulfport. He was born in Gulfport and was a graduate of Gulfport High School Class of '54. He was a graduate of USM and attended Officers' Candidate School in Newport, RI. He retired from the US Navy as a Lt. Commander in 1979 after over 24 years of service. He was Episcopalian and made his home in Pass Christian following retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy W. Jones, Sr. and Retta Miller Jones of Mississippi City. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ellen Evans Jones of Pass Christian; a sister, Judy Jones (Skip) Haller of Gulfport; two brothers, Roy W. Jones, Jr. of Saucier and Alan Miller (Andrea) Jones of Gulfport; six nieces and nephews; and nine great nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors. Following the memorial service, his cremains will be buried at sea.
