Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday with visitation beginning at 3:00 PM at Heritage United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg for Bert Jenkins, 90, of Hattiesburg,MS, formerly of Gulfport.
There will also be a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the Bert Jenkins Gymnasium on the Gulfport High School Campus in Gulfport. He died Wednesday, September, 23, 2015.
Mr. Jenkins was a native of Richton, MS and a U.S. Army Veteran and POW of WW II. He attended Mississippi State University and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and received a master's degree from the University of Alabama.
He was a former longtime resident of Gulfport and the head basketball coach at Gulfport High School for 28 years. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg and a devout fan of Mississippi State University.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Joe Jenkins and Steven Sablich.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Jenkins of Hattiesburg, MS; two sons, Kenneth Sablich (Marilyn) of Aurora, Co and Scott Sablich (Mary) of Roswell, GA; three daughters, Ann Jenkins Campbell (Jim) of Flora, MS, Debbie Dabbs (Joe) of Hattiesburg, MS, and Beth Sevier (Charles) of Woodstock, GA; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Heritage United Methodist Church in Hattiesburg or the Bert Jenkins Scholarship Fund at Mississippi State University.
