Berthe Louise Mangin, 80, beloved sister, aunt and dear friend, passed away peacefully on her birthday, Wednesday, January 18, 2012 in Biloxi, MS. She was a native of Biloxi and a longtime resident of New Orleans until her return to Biloxi in 1990. Born on January 18, 1932, Berthe was a devout Catholic in the parish of Nativity BVM in Biloxi. Berthe graduated from high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Biloxi where she excelled academically and musically. She was Captain and student conductor of the Kiltie band under Professor Carpenter and was awarded superior ratings in state competitions. She was a graduate of Hotel Dieu School of Nursing and also attained a liberal arts degree in musicology from LSUNO. Her career path encompassed both clinical and non-clinical areas of nursing in rehabilitation, research and education. Prior to retirement she was on staff at Gulfport VA Hospital. As a devotee of music, Berthe sang in various choirs and choral groups and avidly attended the performing arts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Louis and Lorena Bessey Mangin and brothers, Dr. Charles (Wilma) Mangin and Edward Mangin, Sr. and sister Margaret (John) Gilmartin.
Survivors include siblings and their spouses, Albert L. Mangin, Jr., Elizabeth (Andrew) Melancon, John (Melse) Mangin, Sister-in-Law Louise Mangin, devoted nieces, nephews, grand and great grand nieces, nephews, cousins, and very dear friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 23, 2012 at 12:00p.m at the Cathedral of Blessed Virgin Mary. Visitation will be two hours before services. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue.
In lieu of flowers she requested memorials to either Nativity BVM Parish Center Fund; Foundation for Public Broadcasting, MS/LA; St. Vincent de Paul, Nativity Parish.
