Betty Jean Mecomber

Mrs. Betty Jean Burns Mecomber, 80, of Picayune, MS, died Monday, February 25, 2008, in LaCombe, LA. Mrs. Mecomber was born in Deming, New Mexico and had been a resident of Picayune since 1965. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Picayune where she sang in the choir for 15 years. She was a graduate of Colorado School of Nursing and employed with hospitals in North Platt, NE and Witchita, KS. She was with Slidell Memorial Hospital 19 years before retiring with over 50 years as a registered nurse. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Claud S. Mecomber; parents, Robert L. and Jennie Maybin Burns, and a sister, Bobbie Marie Payne. Survivors include two sons, Stanley Mecomber of Picayune and Allen Mecomber and his wife, Linda, of Gulfport; three grandchildren, Amber Lindsey and her husband, Jody, of Overbrook, OK, Justin Mecomber of Oklahoma City, OK, and Greg Mecomber and his wife, Jessica, of Madisonville, TN; two great grandchildren, and other family members. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Picayune in Picayune, Ms. Interment will follow in the New Palestine Cemetery. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
