Betty Lou Tristan

Mrs. Betty Tristan, 71, went to her eternal rest June 2, 2006, after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Tristan became a resident of Biloxi in 1962 via Keesler AFB. Her lifelong dedication and service to the United States Veterans began with her volunteer work at the U.S.O. After achieving a Masters Degree in social work at USM, Hattiesburg, Mrs. Tristan dedicated 18 years of service to the Biloxi V.A. She continued to contribute to the field of social work after retiring from the V.A. by working for Gulf Oaks Hospital in Biloxi as well as several Gulf Coast nursing homes. Mrs. Tristan was preceded in death by her husband, Jose' Tristan and long-time friend and companion, Country Mattina. She looks forward to reuniting with her mother, Nancy Garnett Cole, and father George Millard Cooper. She was also preceded by a sister, Thelma Murray, and brothres, J. W., Jimmy, MacArthur, Gary and her twin brother, Billy Cooper. Mrs. Tristan will be greatly missed by her four daughters, Valerie Bartley, Nancy Morgan, Angelina Shinault and Tyra Holmes. She sadly leaves behind five grandchildren, Jessica Cobb, Brittney Crawford, Khristopher Hyman, Kevin Dunlap and Jarett Shinault. Also feeling her loss is a sister, Lois Nicholson of Alabama and her brothers, Thurman and Graham Cooper of Virginia. Friends and family may attend a memorial service to be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2006. A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until service time. In peace and love she now joyfully resides with Jesus and the saints and angels in heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 2090 Pass Road, Biloxi, MS 39531. The Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
