Bettye Brashier Richards

June 6, 1953 — May 17, 2023

Biloxi

It is with great sadness that the Bettye Richard's family announces her passing on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

She was the daughter of the late Roy and Eldred Brashier.  She is survived by her husband, Eddie Richards; a daughter, Jamie Williams; a son, Hayden Richards; two sisters, Shelia (Steve) Rusk and Debbie Laney.  She leaves behind three grandchildren: Hailey Goff, Gage Landrum and Royston Williams. She was the knit that held her family together.

Her world revolved around her two beloved children, and it was time spent with them, and especially her grandchildren, that she cherished the most.  Bettye loved to spend time with her grandchildren in the pool and she loved being with her grand dog Brew.  She enjoyed going to festivals here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with her family. She was a complete sports fan growing up and later in life. She loved watching baseball, football, and basketball on television when she had the chance. It was often said that she always put on a happy face no matter what the circumstances.

Bettye was born on June 6, 1953, in Quitman, Mississippi. Since her early teens the Mississippi Gulf Coast has been her home. Ocean Springs, Mississippi is where she ultimately lived most of her life and raised her family.  She graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1971. After attending the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, she worked for many years at Ingalls Shipbuilding as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement.

To know her was to love her.  She had an infectious smile that would brighten up every room she walked in.  She never met a stranger.  She leaves a deep void of space that can’t be replaced. Bettye was truly the heart of her family.

The family is honoring Bettye’s wishes to have a small private family memorial with no funeral service.

Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Bettye Brashier Richards.
