Bettye R. Tangney, age 95, of Vancleave passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018. Mrs. Tangney was a longtime resident of the MS Gulf Coast. After 20 years of being a stay at home mom and wife of an Air Force officer, she entered the LPN program at MS Gulf Coast Community College and graduated in 1966. She worked at Howard Memorial Hospital in ICU, ER, and surgery before going to a doctor’s clinic and then retiring.
Mrs. Tangney is preceded in death by her parents, Moses Lee and Adele Gates; spouse, James Tangney; son Randy Tangney; and siblings, John Gates and Floy Fay Horn.
She is survived by her daughters, Gwen Holden, Cyndy (Ron) Morgan; grandson, Ronald P. Morgan; and great-granddaughters, Stefanie Morgan and Samantha (Jeremy) McGowen.
As the parent of an exceptional child, she was very active in the development of educational venues at the many cities around the air force bases the family was stationed at, including Keesler Air Force Base. She was active with the Red Cross in Anchorage and at Keesler. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, china painting, and working in the yard with her plants.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 3, 2018 at the VA Pavilion. The Vancleave Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
