Billie Gene Purdy, age 82, passed away on November 20, 2016, at his home in Gautier, Mississippi surrounded by his family.
Billie was born in Kansas City, Kansas. He and his wife, Ella Mae, who preceded him in death, lived in Illinois until the age of 42. In 1976 they moved to Gautier, Mississippi for warmer climates. He was a devoted husband and father. He and Ella were married for 60 years. Billie was a millwright, iron worker, steel worker, petroleum inspector and an accomplished carpenter. He enjoyed building many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family that will last the test of time. Billie enjoyed his bird dogs and hunting but eventually traded his gun for simple bird and wildlife watching. He enjoyed animals big and small. Billie was a good dancer and there wasn’t a polka he didn’t like. He was an excellent cook, enjoyed a good trip to the casino and was charming to watch with babies.
Billie, Dad, Brother, you are gone too soon from the lives of your family and friends but you leave behind your gifts of treasured memories, love and special care you gave to everyone. You will be deeply missed.
Billie was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Purdy and Viola Mae Purdy; his loving wife of 60 years, Ella Mae Purdy and his half-brother, Robert Purdy
Survivors include his daughters, Rockelle Marie Magruder (Ron) and Kristian Kay Towles (Byron); sister, Kendra Ellen Tarr (John); half-sister, Lenora Plain and half-brothers, Rev. Edward Purdy; and Alfred Purdy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 25, from 12:30 pm until 1:30pm, with a 1:30 pm chapel service , all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park.
