Billy Joe Gilson Sr.

Billy Joe Gilson Sr., 82, of Vancleave, MS passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023. Billy was born April 30, 1940 to George and Hazel Gilson.

Though he was a native to Arkansas, Billy resided on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for over 60 years and worked as a truck driver. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. Billy was selfless and always devoted his life to others. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.

Billy is preceded in death by his wife, Nan P. Gilson; son, Billy Joe Gilson Jr.; and grandson, Jeff Brown.

Survivors include his daughters, Angelon Crittenden, Leah Rich, Dena Hempstead, and Trena (Carlos) Brackett; grandchildren, Lisa (Robbie) Bradley, Jason Crittenden, Lori (Turner) King, Levi (Summer) Rich, Adam (Jamie) Hempstead, Kris Hempstead, Josh (Jessie) Gilson, Blakley Brackett, Cory Brackett; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, February 24, 2023 at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Friends are invited to visit at 1 pm. Interment will follow at Swetman Cemetery.
