In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 16th, Bobby L. Cox passed away peacefully in his home in the St. Martin community. Mr. Bob was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi on October 1st 1936. He was raised in the Franklinton, Louisiana area where he graduated from high school.
To avoid a life of manual labor milking cows and cutting pulpwood, he joined the United States Marine Corps right out of high school. He married the love of his life, Sarah Faye Husser, in 1956. Transferring to the more family-friendly United States Air Force, the couple toured the world and raised a family during 22 years of military service that began in Camp Lejeune, NC and included Tripoli Libya, Sacramento California, Vietnam, Thule Greenland, Keesler Air Force Base, and Guam. After retirement from the Air Force, he earned a BS degree from The University of Southern Mississippi, owned and operated a coin laundromat business, became the West Jackson County Road Manager, and eventually enjoyed full retirement as a self-proclaimed expert porch sitter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles T. Cox; mother, Nannie Bell Delaughter Cox; brothers, Alfred, Paul, and Earl; sisters, Juanita, Pauline, and Earline. As his mother died shortly after his birth, he was lovingly raised by Jessie Sara Lea Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sarah Faye Cox; daughters, Cindy Robertson Cochran and Susan Cox (Tim Catlett); son, Bobby Cox II (Elise); 10 grandsons, Tony Robertson, Joe Robertson, Charlie Cox, Casey Cox, Daniel Cox, Jonathan Cox, Jesse Cox, Samuel Cox, David Cox, and Nathan Cox; and three great-grandchildren, Wade Robertson, Laney Lynn Robertson, and Everly Faye Robertson.
A visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 21st, with a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home, 911 Porter Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS. Burial will follow on Friday at Biloxi National Cemetery without graveside service.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to either St Jude's Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org) or The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (https://svdpusa.org).
