Brenden William Cox

Brenden William Cox of Ocean Springs, MS, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Singing River/Ocean Springs Hospital. He was 34 years old at the time of his death. Brenden was born on July 29, 1987, in Alexandria, Louisiana. He most enjoyed working with his hands, from home-building construction to tying intricate flies for fly fishing, to various types of art. He was a musician, an incredible drummer, and an aspiring guitarist. He loved playing music, camping, hiking, and traveling with his family. He had no children but adored his nephews and niece as his own, considering it his joy and responsibility to teach them everything from building campfires to skipping rocks and riding bicycles – along with his unique philosophies on life. He was a friend to the homeless in the community, always stopping to help with food, blankets, clothes, and a compassionate conversation.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dewey and Vyrtis Cox; James and Dorothy Brown; uncles, Larry, and Glenn Brown.

Those left to cherish his memory include his father, James Mitchell Cox, and mother, Carole Brown Cox; brother, James (Robin) Cox; sister, Rebekah Cox Evans; beloved niece, Peyton Eloise “Ellie” Cox; beloved nephews, Riley and Davis Evans; his fiancé, Jeni Riddle; three aunts, Alison Saiki, Kathy Vaughn and Sarah Brown, one uncle, Charlie Brown; and a host of cousins.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Home of Grace Scholarship Fund, designated in his memory. Home of Grace is a faith-based addiction treatment center and the family’s desire is to encourage others to seek help and to provide the financial assistance needed for recovery. Memorial services for Brenden Cox will be held at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs with Dr. Mike Barnett, Reverends Scott Carpenter and Taylor Johnson officiating on Saturday, January 15, at 2:00. Honorary Pallbearers: Riley and Davis Evans, Charlie Brown, and Scott Brown. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of service.
