Bruce Garvin Johnson, Sr.

Bruce Garvin Johnson Sr, age 80, of Gulfport passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 in Gulfport, MS.

Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his parents, Garvin and Mabel Johnson and sister, Sharon Hoganson. 

Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife, Mildred (Deanie) Johnson; brother, Greg Johnson; children Stephanie Bruder, Bruce Garvin Johnson II, and Terry Gonzalez; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Bruce was born in Hibbing, Minnesota to Garvin and Mabel Johnson on August 11, 1943. He served in the Air Force from 1961-1965. After leaving the Air Force Bruce settled in Gulfport, where he met and married his wife Mildred Johnson in Long Beach, MS in 1975.

Bruce worked as an industrial maintenance mechanic which offered career opportunities in New Orleans, LA and Chehalis, WA. Bruce retired from Dairy Gold in Washington state as a maintenance mechanic. He and his wife returned to the Gulf Coast to begin a new chapter of their lives in an area they missed so much. 

Bruce and his wife enjoyed traveling within and outside of the United States. They were blessed to experience adventures in Italy, Canada, and Australia. Bruce had a wealth of knowledge that he contributed to being an avid reader. He had the extraordinary ability to repair anything and those of us who relied on his expertise will miss him greatly.

A funeral service will be held Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15452 O'Neal Road, Gulfport on Thursday, October 26^th, 2023 at 11am.  Friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS.
