Roy Rogers “Buddy” Weir, age 77, of Gulfport, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospice in Gulfport.
Buddy was born on February 8, 1947 to Jimmy and Teenie Weir of Gulfport. Buddy played football and was a Sigma Chi at Mississippi State University, where he graduated in 1969. Afterwards, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division in Benning, GA. A severe injury during jump exercises prevented Buddy from completing Officer Training School and led to an honorable discharge.
Well-known in food and beverage industry management, Buddy’s career saw him in Little Rock, New Orleans, Nantucket, Milwaukee, and lastly, Gulfport, where he worked at LB’s Restaurant at the Gulfport Grand Casino. Fitness was his passion, and Buddy enjoyed working out with his friends at Rhodes Gym in Gulfport.
A lover of fishing, Buddy moved to Orange Beach, AL for several years where he operated a fishing guide service before returning to MS. He was a devoted Christian and his faith inspired all who knew him. Buddy was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gulfport and he often spoke of his newly found church family at First Presbyterian Church in Gulfport.
Buddy is survived by his brother, Bobby Weir and countless friends whose lives were deeply touched by his faith, love, and example.
Buddy was very loved and will be forever missed.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gulfport. Friends may visit one-hour prior to service. A graveside service, with military honors by the U.S. Army, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Biloxi National Cemetery. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Weir family.
