Buford D. Myrick

Buford Daniel Myrick, age 91 of Ocean Springs, died on Thursday, July 17, 2008 in Ocean Springs. At the age of twenty two, after traveling the United States with the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was sent to Ocean Springs to help build Magnolia State Park; known as Gulf Islands National Sea Shore. He soon met and married a local girl; Florence Williams, who he was married to for 69 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs, had a love for music and played in bands as a young Corpsman. Buford served as a music Minister for the First Baptist Church of Vancleave and Emmanuel Baptist Church of Ocean Springs. He was the last charter member of the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce, he helped form the Noon Lions Club and received the Oustanding Citizens award of Jackson County. Mr. Myrick owned and operated Ocean Springs Distributors, he photographed and produced many of the post cards of the Gulf Coast, which was the love of his business life. He was a past member of the McLeod Lodge #424 in Ocean Springs, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Joppa Shrine Temple, a past patron many times of Adah Chapter #49 and helped organize the Rainbow for girls and worked with the DeMolay Boys. Mr. Myrick was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Dwayne Davis, four brothers and five sisters. Survivors include his wife, Florence Myrick; daughter, Marie (Robert) Pardue all of Ocean Springs; son, Eugene (Joyce) Myrick of Mobile; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Homes, with a service at 11am on Monday, July 21st in the chapel. Burial to follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to Noon Lions Club, PO Box 823, Ocean Springs, MS, 39564.
