It is with faith in the promise of eternal life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that we announce the passing of Burnett Frank Jermyn, 90, of Biloxi, MS, who peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord on December 21, 2024.
He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. Born on April 6, 1934, Biloxi, MS, to Elbert Earl Sr. and Ruth Helena Jermyn.
Burnett proudly served in the Army for two years (1955 to 1957). One of the highlights of his time in the service was pitching the winning game of the Fort Hood Post Fast Pitch Softball Championship in 1956. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he continued to enjoy fast and slow pitch softball, where he pitched for various leagues in the Biloxi area including a church softball league.
He was an avid New Orleans Saints fan through good times and bad; and was so proud to cheer on his team during the Saints Superbowl victory in 2010.
His competitive love of sports also included his love for horseshoes, which he played and frequently won against family and friends.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned home and met the love of his life, Judith Darlene Stevens, a friend of his sister, Jennie. A little over a year later, on October 3, 1958, they were married.
At this time, he was working at Biloxi Freezing Company where he initially worked in the ice department along with his father. He later served as the manager of Biloxi Cold Storage which received, processed, and stored shrimp and various other types of seafood.
After leaving that position, he worked for Power Shack in Biloxi, where he managed the shipping/receiving department until his retirement.
After retirement, he and Judy enjoyed traveling to include road trips and cruising. His favorite cruise destination was Alaska where they cruised many times. Burnett, along with Judy, loved attending their church and spending time with family.
In the early 1970s, Burnett and Judy embraced an expanded family when they welcomed the three children of Judy’s late sister, Joyce Dunkin, into their lives creating the Jermyn/Dunkin Family of six children.
Burnett supported his wife, four sons, and a few of their friends to establish a gospel singing group, “Rejoice”. His support began a family legacy and ministry in music that exists today.
He was a man of God who set the example for his family and everyone around him by instilling honesty, integrity, loyalty, trustworthiness, respect, leading by example, and the importance of working hard to provide for his family among many other values.
Burnett was proceeded in death by his parents, Elbert Earl Jermyn Sr. and Ruth Helena Lawrence-Jermyn; brothers, Lionel James Jermyn, Elbert Earl (Mildred) Jermyn Jr. and sister, Jennie Vee (Carl) Chandler.
