Burras “Buck” A. Batton, Jr., 94, of Gulfport, MS passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at his home in Gulfport.
Burras was born in Biloxi, MS on September 5, 1929. He served in the U.S. Army in Field Artillery Operations and as an Intelligence Specialist in the Korean War. Burras worked for Humble Oil and Exxon as a surveyor, claim agent and on quarter boats. He was a lifetime member of St. Albans Lodge – Grand Lodge of Mississippi – Free and Accepted Masons. Some of Burras’ hobbies included beekeeping, farming, gardening, Western movies and books and tractors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Janetta Bonnett Batton; his parents, Burras A. Batton, Sr. and Louisa Monica Elder Batton; and his siblings, Frances Batton Lane, Helen Batton Daughdrill, Dorothy Batton Harrell, Grace Batton Husley, Nezell Batton Cluff and Wilma Batton Pierce.
Burras’ survivors include his children, Rebecca Batton (Roy) Thibodeaux, Burras Alexander Batton, III and Thomas Lloyd Batton; his grandchildren, Amanda Vance, Kerri Moser, Cecilia Hall, Alexandria Smith and Sarah Craig; his great-grandchildren, Rachel Smith, Gwen Smith, C.J. Hall and Sibbie Hall; and his dog, Crissy.
Funeral Services will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Friends may visit from 1:00 pm until service time. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery.
