Mr. Carl W. "Sweetdaddy" Harris, Sr., 89, was born August 4, 1915, to the late Willie and Wendy Dorsey Harris. He departed this life on April 14, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Biloxi, MS. Mr. Harris was united in holy matrimony to Ms. Luecresha Freightman on May 7, 1934, and to this union ten children were born. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II and received an honorable discharge in January, 1947. Mr. Harris was a fine chef on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for over 60 years, where he cooked at some of the oldest establishments, including The Friendship House, The Log House, Veterans Hospital and . he retired from Keesler Air Force Base. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mrs. Luecresha Freightman Harris, his parents, Willie and Wendy Dorsey Harris, a son, Phil Harris and a sister, Mrs. Lillian Harris Freightman White. Survivors include six daughters, Patricia Carter and her husband, Frank; of Mary Esther, FL; Delores Carleen Leach and her husband, Calvin; Ms. Linda Robertson and her husband, Willie; Ms. Arleen Estus and her husband, Ronald; Hilda Maye and her husband, Larry and Deneice Harris and her husband, Norman Smith, all of Gulfport; three sons, Carl W. Harris, Jr.; Teddy Harris and his wife, Edith, and Jerome Harris and his wife, Linda, all of Gulfport. He is also survivied by a sister, Ms. Althea Harris of .Long Beach, MS; sister-in-law, Ms. Mary Alice Freightman Ward of Gulfort and a very devoted and close friend, Mr. Carl "Good Buddy" Campbell, Sr. of Biloxi. He leaves twenty five grandchildren, thirty five great grandchildren and eighteen great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 1 p. m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at the First Missionary Baptist Church, Gulfport,. where friends may visit one hour before service time. There will be graveside services at Biloxi National Cemetery at 3 p m. with full military honors. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Streeet, Gulfport, is in charge of arrangements.
