Capt. Carlton Vardaman Vance, USMC ret., 92, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 in Ocean Springs. Mr. Vance was a resident of Ocean Springs since 1968. He was a retired U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Vance was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attacks on Dec.7, 1941 and later was part of the invasion forces that captured Iwo Jima. He also was retired from the MS State Employment Office in Pascagoula. He loved gardening and animals. Most of all he loved and was devoted to his family.
Mr. Vance is preceded in death by his wife, Mallie Vance; two sons, Craig Vance, and Malcolm Campbell; two sisters, Mary Mitchell and Marie Russell; and two brothers, Clinton Vance and Cliff Vance.
Survivors include one daughter, Carla Vance; one sister, Tennie Mae Godwin and two grandchildren, Stephanie Richie and Scott Campbell.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home. Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until service time.
Interment will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park.
