Carmela Elizabeth Karacand

Carmela “Millie” O. Karacand, 90, passed into God’s loving arms Thursday, October 1, 2009 in Ocean Springs, MS. She was born on April 28, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York and made her home on the Coast for the last 49 years. “Mom” was a loving wife and mother who always had a twinkle in her eye, a quick smile, and extraordinary kindness. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Karacand, her parents Ralph and Elizabeth Ovale, sister Katie Marino, brother Tommy Ovale, niece Lou-Ann Vasaturo, and nephew George Motchan. Survivors include her children Jeanne (Renny) Harbison, Maggie (Carl) Hebden, Nancy Karacand, Maria Etheridge, and James “Jim” Karacand; sisters Tess Notaroberto, Jennie Vasaturo, Dolly Motchan, and Helen Cerillo; grandchildren, Renee (Paul) McKinney, J.J. (Christine) Harbison, Marc (Meg) Harbison, Michele Harbison, Chris (Michelle) Harbison, Jennifer (Chris) Coon, Michael Ravia, Matt Hashman, Derick Stewart; great-grandchildren, Paula and Luke, Jay Harbison and Summer Dixson, Barbi, Shelby and Camille Harbison, Sydnee Harbison, Cole and Ashlyn Harbison, Jaden and Cami Coon, Maleena and Arianna Hashman; great-great grandchild, Skylar Warbritton, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 10:00 at Nativity BVM. Friends may visit from 9:00 am until mass time. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Ave., Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
