Carol Ann Penton McCoy, age 76, died Tuesday, July 9, 2019.
Ann was raised in Vancleave, Mississippi on the old Jim Ramsay Homestead. She was an 18-wheeler cross-country truck driver, primarily running to the West/Northwest coast. When she started driving trucks, she was one of the first women truck drivers in the country. It was hard to believe that at only 5'1" tall she could handle a large truck as well as she did.
Ann enjoyed her career as a truck driver. Later on, she taught her son, Mark, how to drive a truck. They drove several years together as a team. She enjoyed her career, and had plenty of stories to tell her grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim and Cecile Ramsay, and Marby and Molly Penton; parents, George and Marilena Ramsay Penton; and son, Jonathan Bruce Vaughn.
Survivors include daughter, Cynthia Vaughn Russell; sons, Johnny Mark (Teresa) Vaughn and Randy D. (Cindy) King; grandchildren, Jonathan Russell, Marilena Simmons, Lisa (Sean) Ribarin, Joshua Russell, Eva Russell, Adam Vaughn, Eli Vaughn, Michelle Vaughn, Justin Vaughn, Jaron Chandler, and Kattie (Scottie) Raney and Chris (Christina) Johnson, and Deanna (Edwin) Clark; and 16 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 12, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a 2:00 p.m. Memorial Service at the Vancleave Chapel of BRADFORD O'KEEFE Funeral Home. Burial immediately following at Vancleave Cemetery on Jim Ramsay Rd.
