Carolyn Matranga Howell

Carolyn Matranga Howell, age 92, of Ocean Springs, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at her daughter's home in Biloxi, MS.

Carolyn was born in New Orleans, LA, on April 13, 1932, and resided in Ocean Springs for the past 65 years. She attended St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, and in the past had been a member of the Beach Garden Club, Friendship Civic Club, and Les Masquees Carnival Association. She spent most of her career working for Coastal real estate and insurance businesses, including those owned by businessmen George E. Arndt, Jr., J. K. Lemon, and Errol Bradley. She retired in 1993 from Blossman Gas where she was Administrative Assistant to John R. Blossman, but Carolyn's favorite job was being "Nonnie" to her six beloved grandchildren. 

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Loren R. Howell, Sr.; parents, Vincent and Carrie Tramonte Matranga; brothers, Robert, Michael, and Vincent Matranga; and son-in-law, Rodney M. Van Loon, Jr. 

Survivors include daughters, Donna H. Van Loon (Rodney), Becky H. Green (Courtney), son, Loren R. Howell, Jr. (Karen); grandchildren, Marshall H. Van Loon (Catie), R. Elizabeth Van Loon, Trevor H. Green (Kelly), Ian F. Green, Madeleine C. Howell, and Loren R. Howell, III; great-grandchildren Mary and Liam Green and Lucy and Annie Van Loon; and sister, Andrea Matranga of Metarie, LA. 

Burial will be graveside at Evergreen Cemetery in Ocean Springs on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Ocean Springs Funeral Home of Bradford O'Keefe is in charge of arrangements. 

The family wishes to thank the Ocean Springs Hospital's MICU and Second Floor West staffs, along with Saad Healthcare's Hospice team for helping them through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 502 Jackson Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS 39564, or a charity of your choice.
