Carrie D. Garner passed away January 16, 2016 in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Carrie Virginia Dillard was born December 02, 1931, in Belgreen, Alabama and grew up in Phil Campbell, Alabama. She was one of 9 children, 8 of whom lived to adulthood. She graduated from Phil Campbell High School and the University of North Alabama, with a degree in teaching.
She married B.J. (Jack) Garner, December 19, 1953. They had two daughters, Debra and Lisa.
The family moved to Gulfport in the early 1960’s, where Jack became the owner operator of the McDonald’s restaurants in Gulfport, Hattiesburg, Laurel and Petal.
Carrie was a devout Christian and a long time member of Pass Road Baptist Church. She will be mourned deeply by her family and many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.O. and Niva Dillard, 8 siblings, her husband, Jack Garner, and a grandson, Jackson Boone.
Carrie is survived by Debra and Bill Ward, Lisa and Raymond Boone, and three grandchildren: Jessica Brown, Jordan Boone and Jacob Boone. She is also survived by her brother, Hoyt Dillard of Russellville, Alabama.
There will be a visitation for family and friends, Friday, January 22nd from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service, all at Gulf Haven Mennonite Church, 21497 Mennonite Road, Gulfport, Mississippi, 39503.
