Catherine Cannon Schnell, 92, of Biloxi, MS, died Friday, June 24, 2011, in Biloxi.
Mrs. Schnell was a native Biloxian and a lifelong communicant of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer where she was active in St. Mary's and St. Agnes Guilds. She retired from Keesler Air Force Base after twenty three and a half years of federal service. She was also active in many civic, professional and social organizations. She and was a former member of Ann Grayson Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Beauvoir Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy, charter member and past president of Junior Women's Club, past president of Civic Women's Club of Biloxi, a former member of the American Society of Women Accountants and Biloxi Lions Auxiliary. Mrs. Schenll was an avid golfer and joined Sunkist Country Club in 1957. She was also an ardent bridge player and belonged to several bridge groups including the local ACBL.
Mrs. Schnell was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Schnell; her brother, Carlyle W. Cannon; her sister, Virginia Champeaux; her mother, Beatrice Cannon Gordon, and her step-father, N. D. Gordon. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Schnell Zimlich of San Antonio, Texas and Constance Schnell Hansen of Pass Christian, MS. There are five surviving grandchildren, Todd Zimlich of Topeka, Kansas, Mark Zimlich of Lawrence, Kansas, Josh Zimlich of Houston, Texas, Glenn Hansen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Amber Hansen-Spottke of Stuttgart, Germany, and eleven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
