Catherine Clower Thornhill

Catherine Clower Thornhill, age 76, of Gulfport, died Thursday, August 16, 2007 in Columbia, MS. She was born in Gulfport and had been a resident for most of her life. Mrs. Thornhill was a graduate of Gulfport High School, Class of 1948, a graduate of Gulf Park College and University of Southern Mississippi where she was a member of Chi Omega. Sorority. A retired school teacher, she taught fifth grade at Bayou View Elementary for many years. Mrs. Thornhill was a member of First United Methodist Church, Gulfport, Gulf Coast Camelia Society, Beauvoir Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Gulfport Yacht Club Women's Auxiliary, and the Cosmopolitan Club of Columbia, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Simeon Clower and Olive Barrett Clower; and husbands, John Fort Meeks and Donald Thornhill. She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Meeks Cottrell and her husband, Barry, of Gulfport and Pamela Meeks Baswell and her husband, Steve, of Chelsea, AL; three sisters, Olive Elizabeth Clower Beach of Columbia, MS, Dorothy Clower Phillips of Houston, TX, and Margaret Clower Hannen of Mechanicsburg, PA; a brother, Thomas Simeon Clower, Jr. of Gulfport; and three granddaughters, Elizabeth Fort Cottrell, Leigh Michelle Baswell, and Sarah Catherine Baswell. The funeral service will be held Monday, August 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport where friends may visit from 12:30 p.m. until the service. Interment will be Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia.
