Charles John Barnes III

Charles J. Barnes III, age 77, passed away on Tuesday September 19, 2023 at Gulfport Memorial Hospital from complications of heart disease.

Charlie was born in Biloxi, MS and is a lifelong resident of the coast. He started his career working for Corso’s delivery company and Borden’s dairy. Most of his career was in food service retail management along the coast. He was loved and respected by his coworkers and was a dedicated hard-working employee. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Gulfport. He loved living on the coast, the water, boating, fishing, and the beach. He was a lifelong fan of the New Orleans Saints and Ole Miss Rebels.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. Barnes Jr., and Estelle Barnes; wives, Glenda DeVries Barnes and Sandra Collins Barnes; and sister, Jan Cook.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mickie Ellis Barnes; daughters, Robin Barnes Grandonico (Stephen) and Lindsey Barnes Mays (Eric); stepchildren, Michelle Ellis Pettey (Greg) and Tyler Ellis (Pam); grandchildren, Alexandra Grandonico, Jackson Mays, Ann Thompson, Adele Pettey, and Jack, Grayson, and Wesley Ellis; and many other family and friends.

Mickie and her children became a part of Charlie’s life later, but as he said, “just in time”. He adored them all. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and a good friend.

A celebration of Life is planned for Tuesday, September 26, 2023, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by service at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Gulfport, 2301 15^th St., Gulfport, MS. Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15^th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Barnes family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport Benevolence Fund Snack Bag ministry.
