Charles Hugh Benton

Charles H. Benton, age 75, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 following a valiant battle with multiple myeloma. Charles was born on April 17, 1947 in Magee, MS.

Charles graduated from Jackson Central High School, Mississippi State University and Georgia State University. He served as principal of Nichols Junior High, Fernwood Junior High and Biloxi Junior High School. He retired as the Personnel Director of Biloxi Public Schools. Charles was also a licensed funeral director and had worked at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Riemann Family Funeral Homes and the Loewen Group. Charles loved God, his family, his church family and listening to and singing Southern Gospel Music. He had a beautiful voice, a quick wit and the determination and perseverance of a bulldog. He was an encouragement to all who knew him.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lois and Hugh Re Benton; his first wife, Gail Pace Benton; their newborn son, Jonathan Kyle; and his sister, Gary Ann Holderfield.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Dee Benton; children, Brad (Bridget) Benton, Sara (Taylor) Whiddon, Elizabeth Brumbaugh, and James (Vivian) Brumbaugh; grandchildren, Wilson, Kyler, and Abi Alden Benton and Ellie Brumbaugh.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to The Baptist Children’s Village, P.O. Box 27, Clinton, MS 39060-0027 or Parkway Baptist Church, 17284 Highway 67, Biloxi, MS 39532.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Pass Road Chapel, 2511 Pass Road, Biloxi from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The funeral Service will be Monday, February 13, 2023 at Parkway Baptist Church, 17284 Highway 67, Biloxi at 1:00 p.m. where friends may visit beginning at noon. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport. The Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the Benton family.
